It’s nearly a month into spring and I’m pleased to say that the sun is finally shining down on us here in Hoboken, New Jersey – hopefully for good this time.
Warm weather is a blessing and a curse for the working professional. The upsides: Project outlooks seem a little brighter as the sun rays pour warmth and natural light through the office window. Work attire is infused with more breezy creativity, and moods elevate with each degree.
The curse? Spring fever.
As temperatures climb past 60 degrees, it’s hard to avoid feeling a bit confined by office walls. While the outside view is more pleasant, gazing wistfully out the window can lead to a lack of productivity.
But taking a short trip outside to breathe fresh air and feel the sun’s warmth on your skin can help rejuvenate your concentration and efficiency on the job.
Here are five ways you can enjoy the spring weather during the work week:
- Walk to work. If you commute via train, walking to and from the station instead of hitching a ride gives you some cardio and a chance to clear your head
- Offer to go on the daily coffee run. There is nothing like a sunny, scenic stroll to accompany a boost of caffeine for grateful coworkers
- Pick up your lunch order. As the weather gets nicer, there are fewer excuses for ordering delivery from the restaurant right down the street
- Eat outside. On that note, you can move the lunch bunch to the local park for some Vitamin D between conference calls
- Run out the mail. Avoid going postal by taking outgoing letters and packages to the post office yourself, rather than leaving it on the front desk for pick-up
It’s important to take a break during the work day – especially in sunshine-y springtime. Taking a walk outside will keep your mind sharp so you can continue delivering topnotch results.
How do you get a taste of spring weather while you work?
