Social Media Musings from a Millennial
We’re here to help you keep your finger on the pulse of the ever-changing world of social media. Don’t miss the latest changes, updates and happenings on your favorite social media platforms.
Introducing Call-to-Action Buttons. Facebook announced that seven call-to-action buttons are coming to Pages. The seven calls to action are: book now, contact us, use app, play game, shop now, sign up, and watch video. With many businesses utilizing Facebook as a customer acquisition platform, these simple calls to action are useful ways to increase goal conversions.
New tools for Facebook Page Admins. Facebook unveiled new tools to help Facebook Page Admins publish relevant content. The new interest targeting allows advertisers to target posts to a smaller group of people that like your Page based on their interests. The second new feature is Post End Date. This feature allows admins to specify an “expiration date” for posts, ensuring out-of-date posts do not appear in the News Feed.
Instagram tops 300 million users.
Instagram, the photo- and video-sharing app, now has 300 million monthly users, besting Twitter’s 284 million monthly users. Instagram also announced that verified accounts are coming to the app. This news means one thing: Filtered photos are here to stay.
Trending brings timeliness to Facebook. Trending, a Facebook feature added to the desktop version of the site earlier this year, is now available on mobile. The goal for Trending, according to Facebook product managers, is “to help people discover timely and relevant conversations about the news that they care about.”
Search through Facebook posts. Facebook Search underwent a redesign, allowing users to quickly search through posts, photos, videos, news articles and more.
