We’re here to help you keep your finger on the pulse of the ever-changing world of social media. Don’t miss the latest changes, updates and happenings on your favorite social media platforms.

He came. He saw. He answered. Mark Zuckerberg’s Q&A on Thursday, November 6 answered some lingering questions. Speaking about organic reach for Pages, Zuck said, “There’s this inherent conflict in the system: Are we trying to optimize News Feed to give each person the best experience when they are reading, or are we trying to help businesses reach as many people as possible? With every decision we make, we optimize for the first. If a business is sharing content that is going to be useful for them, we’ll show that. If a business is sharing content that probably isn’t going to be useful for them, we probably won’t show it.”

Twitter.com shows off new UI. Twitter.com showed off a new user interface, with users now being able to compose Tweets at the top of the home timeline on Twitter.com. The change doesn’t apply to Twitter on iOS or third party Twitter apps.

New News Feed. The morning after Zuck’s Q&A, Facebook unveiled new options for users to control what is displayed in the News Feed. News Feed settings will now show a list of the top people, Pages and Groups that users have seen in their News Feed over the past week. Users can easily unfollow any friend, Page or Group if they don’t want to see their stories in the News Feed. Users will also be able to see accounts they have unfollowed in the past and can choose to re-follow them at anytime. If users see a story that they are not interested in or don’t want to see, simply tapping the arrow in the top right of that story will hide it. Starting today, when a story is hidden, users will also have the option to ask to see less from that person or Page.

A snapshot of Instagram success. Simply Measured shared results of a new study analyzing the success of topinstagram 100 brands in the world on Instagram. Some key takeaways: The average caption is 138 characters long (including hashtags), posts that include another user in the caption average 56 percent more engagement, and monthly engagement for the top 100 brands has more than doubled from Q3 last year. Now is the time to hop on Instagram, brands!

Discover Instagrammers and erase typos with the latest update. Speaking of Instagram, today Instagram announced a bundle of major updates on the platform. The “Explore” icon on the bottom of the screen changed to a magnifying glass and now has two tabs: Photos and People. The People tab is a new feature that highlights interesting accounts to discover. Additionally, Instagram added the ability to edit captions on posts. Personally, I’m still waiting for the ability to switch between Instagram accounts easily.
