B2B online experiences growth spurt. A new study released last week analyzes how B2B buyers are making purchases. The number of B2B buyers who spent 90 percent or more of their budgets online in the past year doubled since last year, up to 18 percent from 9 percent. However, though there is more online spending, many customers are not going directly to the websites of B2B suppliers. This is important intel for companies that offer B2B solutions.
Can Twitter get your digits? Twitter introduced a new tool to benefit app developers at Flight, its first mobile developers conference. Called Digits, the new tool plans to change how users sign up for apps. Instead of typing in a username and password, or signing in with a Facebook or Google account, users can type in their phone number. After submitting, their phone will receive a password that will allow them to access the app. An outstanding question is what happens to your phone number? Does Twitter add it to a list somewhere? Is it available to marketers or used to contact you?
Facebook’s new app inspired by the past. Facebook’s new standalone app, Rooms, is inspired by the early days of the Internet. When online chat rooms, message boards, and forums ruled the social scene, Facebook was merely an idea in Mark Zuckerberg’s head. Now Facebook has rolled out a way for users to make and join rooms that appeal to very specific communities.
